The Tasmania Aboriginal Centre and the Museum of Natural History in Vienna are discussing the return of six Aboriginal skulls to Australia.

Below are extracts from an article published by Radio Australia:

The skulls of Australian Aboriginals discovered in Vienna's Museum of Natural History could be returned by the end of the year.

The Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre says the Museum seems willing to discuss the return of six Aboriginal skulls to Australia.

It also says a skull from Tasmania was uncovered nearly a decade ago, but authorities did not follow up on the case.

The Aboriginal Centre's legal director, Michael Mansell, says new management at the museum has led to a change of heart.

"There's a new group of people running the museum, and we're hoping that by the end of this year they might agree to handing over the remains […] to Tasmanian Aborigines, but also to the Northern Territory," he said.
