Tibet: India Expresses Solidarity

In a zealous demonstration of support for the Tibetan cause, India launches ‘2007: Intensive Campaign for Tibet’.

Below is an excerpt from an article published by Phayul.Com:

Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch launched the year 2007: Intensive Campaign for Tibet. The programme was organized here at Bal Bharati School, Shankar Nagar in Delhi. Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, Dharamsala, was the Chief Guest. A strong gathering of more than 150 Indians attended the meeting (…).

Rinpoche in his speech said that Tibetan government is finding possible solution for the Tibetan issue through dialogue advocating the Middle-Way Path initiated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He said that historically, Tibet was not a part of China and will not be a part of China, but in need of the current situation Tibetan government-in-Exile advocates Middle-Way Path by staying within the Peoples Republic of China. He said that the so-called peaceful liberation of Tibet is in reality an occupation of Tibet. To further clarify the misconception that Indian media has over the issue of Tibet, Rinpoche emphasized that His Holiness vision is to gain genuine regional autonomy within Peoples Republic of China but has never mentioned that Tibet was a part of China. Speaking on various means to solve Tibets issue, Rinpoche said that all the Tibet Support Groups were formed world over on voluntary basis and thus, it is up to them to support whichever stand that they may foresee necessary, but Tibetan Government-in-Exile backs the Middle Way approach which is the most pragmatic.

Other speakers who spoke on the meeting were Brigadier Dr. Raj Bahadur Sharma, Mr. S.S. Bajpa ji, Dr. K.C. Agnihotri, Former Governor of Sikkim Shri Khedarnat Saini ji, and Shri Inderesh Kumar.

A book written by Dr. K.C. Agnihotri titled
Shri Guruji and Tibbat was released on the function. Also released were poster and stickers on the yearlong intensive campaign initiated by Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Manch. All the Indian speakers highlighted issues concerning a need for Indians to support the Tibetan cause especially on the Kailash Mansarover which is considered one of the very important religious sites for Hindus.

Dr. K.C. Agnihotri talking on his book said that the campaign for Tibet is to secure India from the Chinese threat. Shri. Guruji was one of the foremost who forecasted possible threat to India after Chinese occupation of Tibet. He said the Congress government then was reluctant over the issue and went on saying Hindi Chinni Bhai Bhai and this bhai (brother) has later deceived India in 1962 when China attacked India. Therefore, he declared the year 2007 will be observed as the year of Intensive Campaign for Tibetan Cause through out India. Various programmes will be organized.

Shri Indresh Kumar ji while speaking on the occasion said there isn
t much progress in understanding what ideology the Chinese government follows. Every country who believed in Chinese policy has to face disloyalty from them. Therefore through this campaign launch he approached every Indian for a need to pressurize Indian government to initiate a talk between China and the Dalai Lama. Tibetans should be involved in any border discussion that takes place between India and China. He also said that the religious and social persecution taking place in Tibet need to be stopped.

The Chairperson of the meeting Shri Khedarnat Saini ji recalling his past experiences of having worked as the Governor of Sikkim during which, he said, that he received opportunity to learn more on Tibet particularly the good relationship India and Tibet shared. He thus said that the Indians should intensify its support to the Tibet’s cause.
