Nagalim: Talks Likely in Next Few Days, Says NSCN-IM Official

The GS of the NSCN-IM Mr. Muivah, UNPO Member, will hold talks with PM Dr Singh in the next couple of days on the Naga peace process, according to a GPRN official.

The general secretary of the NSCN-IM Thuingaleng Muivah, who is currently in New Delhi, will hold talks with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in the next couple of days on the Naga peace process, according to GPRN deputy kilonser (MIP), Karaibo Chawang.

Chawang, who spoke to IFP over the telephone from New Delhi, added that Th Muivah will be coming to Nagaland soon, and is expected to stay for at least three months.

He said Muivah, who is in India at Dr Manmohan Singh`s express invitation is likely to meet the Prime Minister either tomorrow or the day after regarding the ongoing peace process, though the schedule has not been fixed as yet.

The NSCN(IM) leader, after a stay of about two weeks in Delhi, will visit Nagaland soon, Chavang said, adding that he is expected to stay for three months before leaving the country.

Chavang declined to speculate on what issues are likely to be taken up during Muivah`s proposed talks with the Indian Prime Minister, but reiterated that any resolution to the India-Naga issue would be on based on the concept of an India-Nagaland federation.

While acknowledging that the Indian government will not easily concede all of the NSCN(IM)`s demand, he reiterated that the Naga`s had an unique history and unique rights.

Chavang also stated there is no question of interference of the NSCN(IM) in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Manipur, asserting that it is left to the wisdom of the Naga people whether to participate in the elections or not.

The NSCN deputy kilonser declined to comment on the United Naga Council campaign against political party-affiliated candidates in the forthcoming polls, stating that the UNC was a Naga organization, which was taking up the Naga people’s issues.

Asked about the NSCN-K’s reported threat to kill Muivah if he comes to Nagaland, Chavang said the question is better put to the NSCN-K.
