Montagnards: Vietnam warned to rethink policy towards minorities

Amnesty International says Vietnam must reassess approach towards ethnic minorities
Amnesty International says Vietnam must "radically rethink" its policy towards ethnic minorities in the Central Highlands, accusing security forces of using brutal force to break up Easter protests.

The human rights group says it's obtained the names of eight people believed to have been "unlawfully killed" by authorities during the April 10-11 demonstrations.

In a report, Amnesty says it fears that the final death toll is considerably higher and has further names of victims which are yet to be corroborated.

Last week, Human Rights Watch said at least 10 Montagnards died and hundreds were wounded during protests in Dak Lak, Gia Lai and Dak Nong provinces.

It accused the Vietnamese government of mounting a huge cover-up operation.
