Taiwan: Japan Urged to Help UN Bid

The chairman of the Federation of Taiwanese Associations in Japan yesterday called on the Japanese government to support Taiwan's bid to join the UN

The chairman of the Federation of Taiwanese Associations in Japan yesterday called on the Japanese government to support Taiwan's bid to join the UN and push for the UN to help safeguard peace in the Taiwan Strait. In his article published in the Japanese daily Mainichi Shimbun, Chan Teh-hsun said that cross-strait peace is vital to Japan's stability and economic development. The UN Security Council adopted a resolution -- introduced by Japan -- condemning North Korea's test-firing of missiles in early July, Chan said, adding that such a move would help uphold world peace. Chan warned the Japanese government of another serious threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
