Chechnya: Japan Allots Some $1 Mln for Education Restoration
Chechnya will receive these funds within the framework of a joint project of Japan and the United Nations for psychological, pedagogical and medical-social rehabilitation of schoolchildren and teaching staff.
The money provided within the framework of the project will
be used above all to increase the number of personnel of the psychological-pedagogical
and medico-social rehabilitation centre in Chechnya, increase the number of
specialists that will provide help to schoolchildren that sustained injuries
from mines and in other situations, as well as to purchase specialised
literature and teaching materials.
According to UN experts, since 1999 when combat operations
started again in Chechnya a small number of children have had an opportunity
to go to school and most of teachers and doctors either quit their profession
or leaved the republic for good.
