Cabinda: FLEC Disputes the Validity of General Sanjars Comments

Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC) disputes that the comments made by General 'Sanjar' to South Africa News 24 Regarding 'Cabinda deal close'are false
In response to the comments made by General “Sanjar” to South Africa News24, FLEC wishes to make it categorically clear to the people of Cabinda and the international community, that the comments made by General “Sanjar” are false. This is further substantiated by his reluctance to provide further details of the so-called ‘peace talks’ with FLEC, a merger of the two main groups backed in Cabinda in September 2004 in the Netherlands.

FLEC’s mandate from the people of Cabinda is to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Cabinda. Since 1985, FLEC has devoted its efforts in attempting to attract the Government of Angola to enter dialogue regarding the issue of Cabinda. Unfortunately, FLEC’s efforts have been unsuccessful due to the lack of transparency and commitment by the Government of Angola, and the absence of international community’s involvement.

After the merger in 2004, FLEC approached the Government of Angola with a view of initiating dialogue on Cabinda. So far, FLEC has not received any formal or informal indication from the Government of Angola, nor has FLEC sent any official from the Movement to Luanda to negotiate with the Government of Angola.

As to claims that banditry exists in Cabinda, General “Sanjar” should accept the truth that war exists in Cabinda. General “Sanjar” should urge the promotion of real peace with the people of Cabinda and end ethnic cleansing. Furthermore, the Cabindan struggle is a real and just cause pursued by FLEC since 1963 and FAC (Armed Forces of Cabinda) in protecting the people of Cabinda since 1975, due to the violence of the FAA (Armed Forces of Angola).

Such comments made on behalf of the Government of Angola for the international community’s audience purpose highlights the truth of their intention of promoting a “policy of no-solution” in Cabinda.

In conclusion, FLEC forcefully states that there are no ongoing talks between FLEC and the Government of Angola in Luanda or elsewhere regarding the status of Cabinda. However, FLEC continues to state its readiness in anticipation of the Government of Angola to begin sincere dialogue regarding Cabinda with the participation of the international community.
