Acheh: UN Officials Inspect Rehabilitation Projects

A number of United Nations executive members, comprising several nationals, inspected rehabilitation and reconstruction projects in Aceh province on Monday.

The UN team, led by Simon Field, visited rehabilitation and reconstruction projects financed with funds from the United Nations Development Program, Unicef and the WFP in Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar regency.

Field told reporters that the visit of the UN executive members was focused on the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Ulee Lhue sea port, which was devastated by strong earthquakes and tsunami that hit the region on December 26, 2004.

The team has realized that a number of projects have resumed their functions thanks to the rehabilitation and reconstruction work with financial assistance from a number of world bodies and a number of countries.

A member of the visiting UN team hailed cooperation between the world institutions and the Indonesian Government as well as the Aceh provincial administration in efforts to speed up the revival Aceh, which was hit by a natural disaster that claimed over 200,000 dead victims.
