Nagalim: Hundreds Rally to Demand Solution of Peace Issue

The people of Nagaland have raised doubts over the sincerity of the Centre in finding a permanent solution to the vexed Naga problem.

With no solution still in sight even after signing of a cease-fire agreement between the Union government and NSCN-IM eight years ago, the Nagas are getting apprehensive of the final out-come of the on-going peace process.

Participating at a rally organized by the Naga Council(NC) in Dimapur toady, the people urged the government to work out a solution before the expiry of the current cease-fire in January 31 next year.

Members of various organisations like Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights(NPMHR), Naga Women Hoho, Naga Students' Federation(NSF), churches, gaon burahs and other NGOs took part in the rally.

In his address, president of NC Savi Ligiese said unification of all Naga areas was the only road way to the solution of the Naga problem.

He said the demonstration was to demand peace and early resolution to the issue.

Naga Hoho president Horangse Sangtam demanded a final result before the expiry of the current cease-fire and urged the Union government not to deceive the Naga people by giving them false hope.

Naga Hoho "Assembly Speaker" HK Zhimomi said no solution will be acceptable to the Nagas until all the Naga dominated areas are united.

Cautioning that people with vested interest were out to sabotage the peace process, he said, "We will not allow that to happen".

Convenor of NPMHR Nepuni said with the peace process at a crucial stage, today's demonstration highlighted the people's call for peace.

Senior citizen Manik Bhattacharjee also emphasised the need for peace and early resolution of the Naga problem.
