A delegation of the Naga Hoho, the supreme body of the community, presently lodged in New Delhi, said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh "had portrayed a positive outlook on the present peace talks being held between the Government and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah)".

The delegation, which met the Prime Minister on Monday, said that Singh was aware of the Naga problem and was trying to work out an amicable solution through democratic methods. The Naga Hoho was assured of New Delhi's determination to solve the decades-old problem of the Nagas, the delegation said.

Singh told the delegation that the Centre was analysing the situation carefully and that a step by step process would be initiated to solve the problem. While expressing serious concern over the present crisis in Manipur, Singh reiterated that a solution had to be arrived through peaceful means and that it was not right to open up battlefronts.
