Abkhazia: OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Adopts Resolution on Abkhazia

The Washington Declaration, adopted by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on July 5, states that “the continued lack of progress on key issues of comprehensive settlement of the conflict in Abkhazia, Georgia is unacceptable.”

The Resolution on the Situation in Abkhazia, which is a part of the Washington Declaration, also stresses the urgent need for progress in the issue of returning internally displaced persons back to Abkhazia and calls on “the Abkhaz side to display a genuine commitment to make returnees the focus of special attention and to undertake this task in secure and dignified conditions, in accordance with international law.”

The document also calls on the Russian side “to facilitate and ensure dialogue between conflicting parties.”
