LONDON - A London-based Iranian Arab separatist group blamed by Teheran for a series deadly bomb blasts in the country denied responsibility Monday, insisting it was a peaceful organisation.

At least eight people were killed and 75 were wounded in four blasts Sunday in Ahvaz, an ethnic Arab majority city close to the Iraqi border, while two more died in an evening blast that hit a busy square in Teheran, official media said.

Ali Hadad, an aide to the governor of Ahvaz, blamed the blasts in the city on the Popular Democratic Front of Ahwazi Arabs, which is based in London.

However, spokesman Mahmoud Ahmad al-Ahwazi told AFP late Sunday: ”We deny that. We are a political organisation, and in 15 years of struggle against the (Iranian) regime, we haven’t used arms at all, not even once.

“No one can say that, and the regime can’t say that. We believe our people should fight politically because we believe this is the way we can have the support of the world.

“We believe, strongly believe, that the regime has done some of these explosions,” he added
