A group of about 25 students accompanied by one lecturer from the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede visited the Secretariat on 1 June 2001. The objective was to get acquainted with the history, structures, main objectives and activities of UNPO, as well as to learn more about the struggle of Uighurs for self-determination against China.

The students are attached to the School of Journalism and Communications, and put forward numerous questions during the briefing session at the Secretariat. General Secretary Erkin Alptekin discussed the struggle of the Uighur people against Chinese oppression, referring to his personal experiences, while MIC Director David Broekman briefed the students on the activities of the MIC in promoting the interests of our members. Student interns and volunteers Kim Maureen Delvalle, Amel Abulaiha and Jeroen Zandberg also briefly discussed their contributions and experiences at the UNPO.
