Ahwazi: Seizure of Farm Lands Destabilises the Region, Protestors Imprisoned
Iranian security forces violently suppressed ongoing demonstrations in the city of Ahwaz. In November 2017, farmers had been illegally expulsed from their lands by Etka, an organisation affiliated with the Iranian military. The confiscation of lands of Arab farmers led to massive protests in Ahwaz. Iranian security forces violently attacked villagers in the north of the province last week to punish them for taking to the streets. Numerous people are currently imprisoned and arrested as punishment for their peaceful protest against this unjust treatment. Additionally, four women got arrested and imprisoned in the Ilam province. These acts, committed with total impunity, are happening in a legal void and political passivity, both from national and international political forces.
