Gagauzia: The Status of Gagauzia


The RM Parliament has passed in the final reading the amendments to the RM Constitution, which amendments fix a particular legal status of the Autonomous-territorial Unit of Gagauzia
The RM Parliament has passed in the final reading the amendments to the RM Constitution, which amendments fix a particular legal status of the Autonomous-territorial Unit of Gagauzia, As INTERLIC News agency reports, up to the present Gagauzia’s particular status was fixed only in tan Organic Law on Gagauzia’s Particular Status, approved in 1994.

According to today’s amendments, Gagauzia is an autonomous-territorial unit with a special status, as a form of the Gagauzians’ self-determination and it is Moldova’s indelible and constituent part. Gagauzia has the right to solve all the issues of political, economic and cultural character within its terms of reference in accordance with the RM Constitution in the interests of its population.

The amendments envisage that the land, subsoil, waters, flora and fauna and other natural resources, situated on the territory of Gagauzia, is the property of the RM people and the economic basis of the autonomy. All the rights, fixed in the RM Constitution and the Law are guaranteed on the territory of Gagauzia.
