Calls for the creation of a separate Turkmen province in the Tal Afar district (west of Mosul) are emerging as the status of Mosul is left in limbo amid ongoing offensives with the so-called Islamic State occupiers. Al Hibabi, a Turkmen MP, has dismissed claims about sectarianism and highlighted how the Turkmen community simply wishes to manage its own affairs as allowed by the existing Constitution.
