Representative of the Communist Party Stepan Esir was elected the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Gagauz-Eri in the course of the first sitting of the National Assembly of the Gagauz-Eri on Friday As INTERLIC News agency reports, the majority faction “For Flourishing Gagauzia in the Composition of the Renewed Moldova” of the Communists and the Independent Parliamentaries have moved his candidature.

33 Parliamentaries voted for him in the course of the voting by secret ballot. Two bulletins were recognized as invalid. Independent Parliamentary Ivan Ceban and Communist Olga Radova were elected to the posts of Vice-Speakers.

Besides, eight permanent commissions were set up in the course of the sitting, their chairmen were elected and the NA Presidium of 11 members was approved.

The next session of the National Assembly is slated for December 25. It will consider Gagauzia’s budget for 2004
