Intensification of Lao PDR Military Campaign Against Hmong Community

The Laotian army has in recent days intensified its ongoing military campaign against the Hmong Indigenous community taking refuge in the jungles of the Phou Bia region of Laos. On 13 June 2016 it was reported that several helicopters landed in the jungle dropping off two regiments or an estimated between 2-4,000 soldiers. The regiments are reportedly closing in on the camp and firing heavy artillery into the areas they suspect the Hmong communities to inhabit. UNPO and the Congress for World Hmong People (CWHP) condemn this ongoing and systematic violence, and urge the international community to act swiftly to bring an end to this extermination campaign before it is too late.
