Kosova: Serbia to Recognise Kosovar Independence before EU Admission, Says Catalan MEP

PRISTINA – Spain does not recognize Kosovo’s independence because of Catalonia, but this is ridiculous, since the Catalan people will decide freely for its future, whether Spain recognizes Kosovo independence or not, said Catalan politician and MEP, Josep-Maria Terricabras for Gazeta Express.

Terricabras is convinced that Kosovo accession to the European Union is the greatest guarantee for stability and development in Kosovo and the region. Serbia will be pushed for Kosovo recognition if it aims EU integration.

Member of the European Parliament, Josep-Maria Terricabras also stated that the EP must move faster for visa liberalization for Kosovo.

The isolation of Kosovo as the only country in the region without visa liberalization, according to Terricabras is an improper treatment of Kosovo people by Europe.

The Catalan MEP also talked about Kosovo-Serbia relations and the conditions Serbia is facing for EU integration. “The recognition of Kosovo independence will absolutely and undoubtedly be mandatory for Serbia, before it becomes an EU member”, said Terricabras.
