Kosova: High Hopes for UNESCO Membership

Mr Petrit Selimi, Kosovo Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, explicitly rejected the recently-made claim of the Serbian Foreign Minister, Mr Ivica Dacic, on UN refusal of Kosovo’s UNESCO application. Calling the allegation ‘’completely inaccurate’’, Mr Selimi maintained that Kosovo’s application, once submitted, will be positively reviewed by the UNESCO executive committee.

Selimi said that such comments by the Foreign Minister Dacic are “completely inaccurate.” He added that the executive committee of UNESCO will give a positive recommendation to Kosovo’s application in October of this year.

Selimi went further with his comments, stating that Serbia knows the reality and is trying to propagate and complicate the situation.

“Kosovo’s application was not rejected by the UN, because Kosovo has not delivered its application to the UN. The UN has refused to be an intermediary between Paris and Pristina, which has now opened new channels of communication between Kosovo and UNESCO. No doubt that Kosovo’s application will be reviewed by the executive committee in October”, said Selimi.
