European Language Diversity Summit Newsletter

On 29 July 2015, the organisers of the European Language Diversity Summit launched the first edition of a newsletter aimed at keeping the public informed about the preparation of the Summit. Several organisations, including UNPO, are currently elaborating a Protocol to Ensure Linguistic Rights, which will be adopted during the Summit, which will take place on 8-10 December 2016 in Donostia, one of the 2016 European Capitals of Culture.

The European Language Diversity Summit aims at opening a dialogue between civil society organisations and experts, in order to adopt a Protocol to Ensure Linguistic Rights that reflects civil society’s needs and perspectives. This instrument’s purpose will be to foster language diversity, language equality, to ensure that language communities and not only governments are part of the process. This event, which will take place over three days, aims to be a true milestone in Donostia’s year as the European Capital of Culture.

Through this newsletter, whose ‘number zero’ was released today, the organisers hope to raise awareness of this event and share in an effective way all the developments related to the Protocol’s elaboration and  Summit’s structure and programme.
