Crimean Tatars: Akhtem Chiygoz May Face 10 Years Imprisonment
Mr Akhtem Chiygoz, Deputy Head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people, may be sentenced up to ten years imprisonment for allegedly organising "mass disorder" and reportedly causing the death of two people during clashes in February 2014.

Deputy Head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiygoz, arrested Jan 29, will be detained till Feb 19. Relevant decision was made by Kyivsky Court of Simferopol.
Chiygoz is charged with “organizing mass disorder” and may be sentenced for 10 years in prison.
According to Crimea’s Prosecutor General Natalya Poklonskaya, Chiygoz is incriminated for the death of 2 people in the clashes outside the Crimean Parliament in February 2014.
"Chiygoz is accused of a serious crime, under Article 212 of the Russian criminal code which could carry a 10-year prison sentence. And as the result of the given crime there were two victims – two deaths, as well as people with varying degrees of injury”- Poklonskaya said.
As we earlier reported, Akhtem Chiygoz was detained in the framework of criminal investigation of Crimean Tatars' rally that took place on Feb 26, 2014, when thousands of Crimean Tatars held a rally at the building of the Crimean Parliament showing their support for Ukraine.
The rally came a day before armed men in unmarked uniforms seized the parliament building and the parliament voted to join Russia several days later.
