Ogaden: ONLF Anniversary Celebrated Across the Globe


Ogaden diaspora all over the whole world commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF) expressing support for its struggle against Ethiopian occupation and human rights violations in Ogaden Region.

More than 40 Countries around the world are celebrating Ogaden National Liberation Front’s, (ONLF) anniversary. ONLF was founded on August 15 1984. ONLF is fighting for self-determination of Ogaden Region in eastern Ethiopia annexed by Ethiopia in late of 19th Century.

ONLF are supported by Ogaden diaspora living in western, African and middle eastern countries.  Many young Ogaden born and raised in the West are now well-organised and advocating against Ogaden Human Rights abuses committed by the Ethiopian government forces.

Sweden, London, Nairobi, Nebraska and  Sana, Yemen, are among the most popular places where Ogaden diaspora are celebrating.

Thousands are waving Ogaden flags, remembering those who have been killed in Ogaden over the past two decades and vowing to continue their struggle until their goal is achieved.

ONLF Leader, Admiral Mohamed Omar Osman aired a message to Ogaden people, stating that the Ogaden struggle will continue until the will of Ogaden people are respected.

‘We had a long journey and we will continue until Ogaden issues are solved’ said the Leader Mr. Osman.

The Ethiopian government will not feel happy about these celebrations. Ethiopia says ONLF supporters and forces are weakened, an analysis that experts in the region doubts.
