Ahwazi: March Against Oppressive Iranian Regime

Yesterday [16 April 2014] hundreds of Ahwazi Arabs from all over Europe gathered in Brussels on the occasion of the 89th year of Iran's occupation of Ahwaz.

Below is an article by UNPO:

The demonstrators marched from Schuman Square to Jean Rey Square, holding banners with pictures of martyrs of Ahwaz who have been executed in the recent execution spree under the Rouhani administration.

The march represented the denunciation of Iran's regime and its oppressive practices ranging from the denial of identity through cultural nationalism in order to prevent any cultural activity, to the execution of socio-political activists. The protesters in the march shouted slogans such as “Down with dictators, and Ahwaz shall be free”.

Along with the Ahwazi Arab demonstrators, there were ten people present from the Kurdish  minority of Iran who showed their support for Ahwazis by participating in the march. After the march, the demonstrators gathered in Jean Ray Square where organizers from both Arab and Kurdish minorities gave short speeches to stress the importance of all of Iran's minorities coming together to support each other in the struggle towards freedom from the current regime that denies all minorities of their human rights.
