Documentaries On Wheels Screening In Amsterdam

On Saturday the 13th of April, Indigenous Movement organized a successful event on the Dam Square in Amsterdam, screening documentaries on biodiversity and minority groups. Despite a slow start due to technical problems, the event was finally able to proceed as planned.

The bus decorated with flags from different indigenous groups and organizations was outstanding and noticeable on the busy Dam Square.  The bus was converted into a small cinema where various documentaries were shown from Indigenous groups, such as a documentary about the bio-diversity in Suriname, West Papua New Guinea, Brazil, Peru and Lakota. Representatives from many groups, including Tibet, Turkish Kurdistan, Sri Lanka Tamil, Mapuche and Chin people, were also present at the event. Representatives from all groups were there to provide information on their people and culture. UNPO and some of its Members were also present and active during the event.

The event was organized by Indigenous Movement, an organization that is dedicated to raising awareness on the rights of the indigenous people. Their goal is to create an environment where people are informed and aware about the situation of the indigenous peoples, but also to support sustainable development in the world. Indigenous movement wants to raise awareness through entertainment and arts, and to give the traditions of the indigenous a chance to survive in future generations.

The Documentaries On Wheels program has recently been launched and is dedicated to screening different movies on culture and environment of native people all around the world. The event in Amsterdam was the first Documentaries on Wheels Screening and the Indigenous Movement is planning on organizing more of these screenings in the nearby future.
