The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO) is committed to the promotion of the right to self-determination and stays shoulder to shoulder with the indigenous peoples fighting with non-violent means for the recognition of their basic human and land rights.

The right to self-determination is one of the basic principles of the international law system and must be implemented and recognized by international law instruments. This recognition must involve all the actors participating in the process: from the international governmental entities to the local indigenous communities.

Without a real recognition of the basic human and land rights of the indigenous peoples the world will not only experience a danger for the survival of ancestral cultures, traditions and peoples heritages, but also undermine the effectiveness of the international law system at a global level.

UNPO supports indigenous peoples fighting for the adoption of the Draft Declaration on Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which will be a significant first step towards a real recognition of the right to self-determination.
