THE Movement for Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has elected Mr. Legborsi Saro Pyagbara as its new president.

Pyagbara, who until his elevation was MOSOP’s head of international advocacy, will take over the leadership of the Ogoni group from its provisional Chairman, Prof. Ben Naanen.

He emerged the leader of MOSOP after the presidential poll held at the Ogoni Peace and Freedom Centre, Bori, Ogoni and contested by four candidates, including Harry Wiwa, Mike Nwidobie and Dr. Meshach Karanwii on Monday.

Pyagbara polled a total of 23 votes, Karanwii 15, Nwidobie seven while Wiwa had no vote.

The Ogoni Civil Society Platform (OCSP) administrator and former MOSOP spokesperson, Bari-ara Kpalap has commended MOSOP delegates and indeed the good people of Ogoni for “voting excellence and genuine commitment to service as represented by Pyagbara.”
