Taiwan: Former President to chair roundtable on new Constitution

Former President Lee Teng-hui will preside over a roundtable on formulating a new constitution for Taiwan this weekend, organizers said Tuesday. Scores of foreign and local legal scholars will attend the Nov. 27-28 seminar, said a spokesman for the Taiwan Advocates -- a private think tank headed by Lee. Foreign participants will come from the United States, France, Germany, Japan, the spokesman said.

Topics to be discussed will include the legitimacy of Taiwan's new constitution drive, the new concepts for constitutional democracy and features of Taiwan's new constitution, crisis and predicament of Taiwan's current constitutional system and foreign experiences in formulating new constitutions.
