Member of the Friends of Gilgit Baltistan in the European Parliament today [October 3, 2012] issued statement condemning Pakistani Government's decision to make Gilgit Baltistan as its fifth Province while saying that the resolution was adopted by the Gilgit assembly at the behest of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) government in Pakistan and "Violates all democratic and diplomatic norms and is also contrary to the spirit of Pakistan's constitution itself, which has since accepted Gilgit Baltistan not as a part of Pakistan but as a part of Jammu & Kashmir," and continued while mentioning the Kashmir issue that the ill intention i.e. to sabotage the Kashmir is the main cause behind passing the resolution, which seeks conversion of Gilgit Baltistan into a province of Pakistan.

And urged the international community to take note, that the Gilgit Baltistan is struggling for their rights and seeks international intervention to stop Pakistan from absorbing Gilgit baltistan and withdrew its security forces.

They also mentioned that it would have some serious strategic and security implications for the region, as instead of using it for progress and enrichment, Pakistan has used the region for the purposes of fashioning an environment of intolerance and violence that has impacted on the lives of people in Gilgit Baltistan.
