Governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, has promised to support the creation of new states out of the present Rivers State, if elected governor in the April general elections.

Abiye who spoke, weekend [March 12-13, 2011], at his rally in Bori, assured that one of the top priorities of his administration would include the fight for the creation of an Ogoni State.

“ACN government will support creation of more states out of Rivers State.  With me as your governor, we shall support the creation of Ogoni State. We need more states in the state,” he said.

He added that the peoples’ vote will count in the coming election just as he enjoined people of the state to vote for him and other candidates for various offices on the platform of ACN.

Dismissing fears that the power of incumbency would tilt the elections in favour of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, he assured that he will come up with programs what would advance the state.

He assured that when he comes on stream, he will see to it that the people were made part of any economic program, adding “if the ACN takes your land, you will be shareholders.”
