The 120-seat parliament of Kosova, on 4 March 2002, elected Ibrahim Rugova as the first president of the semi-autonomous Kosova. Often referred to as the “Gandhi of the Balkans”, Mr. Rugova’s ultimate objective is to obtain the full independence of Kosova from Serbia.
