The permanent presidential representative in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Serhiy Kunitsyn, has told members of the president's council of Crimean Tatars that he will persuade Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovych to resolve the problems of Crimean repatriates, as these problems are of geopolitical importance.

He said this at a special meeting with the members of the council on Monday 19 [2010], the main topic of which was a discussion of the problem of accommodation for repatriates, Crimean Tatars, their adaptation and integration into Ukrainian society, as well as preparations for the events dedicated to the 66th anniversary of their deportation, a correspondent from Interfax-Ukraine reported.

"I promise one thing: as the president's representative I will persuade the head of state, [and the country's] new leaders that these issues must be resolved, as there are issues of geopolitics and ethno-national policy behind each particular problem," he said at the meeting, adding that such meetings will be held regularly.
