UN Monitor: 13th Session HRC

UNPO has released a report on their interaction at the 13th session of the Human Rights Council which took place in Geneva, Switzerland, this March 2010. The session has been one of tremendous success for UNPO, and its affiliated members in highlighting the tragic plight of their populations to the wider international community.

The role of the Council is to provide a forum in which grievances and human rights issues can be explored, and recommendations can be made to the states in question. It is within this capacity that UNPO attended the 13th session of the council, primarily on behalf of our Balochistan, Sindh and Gilgit Baltistan Members and also with regards to the adoption of two UPR reports on Cambodia and Ethiopia that affect our Khmer Krom, Montagnard, Uyghur, and Oromo Members. UNPO provided evidence of gross human rights abuses, aiming to positively and tangibly influence the eventual recommendations made.

The Session, which runs through much of March 2010, brings to the discussion table ten itemized topics regarding specific rights abuses, general debates, UPR reviews, regional debates, as well as a series of pre-specified thematic discussions.
