KINDNESS: A Letter From Tibet will Be Aired on Dutch Television

On the 2nd of April, 2010, a film about the life of Tsering Jampa will be aired on Dutch television. This film portraits Tsering Jampa, the director of the International Campaign for Tibet Europe.

Tsering Jampa, in the past the General Secretary of the international human rights organization UNPO, has been living for 23 year in the Netherlands. At the age of four, her peaceful life was cruelly disrupted when Chinese soldiers occupied her home. Shortly thereafter she and her family fled Tibet for India. Her mother songs and old stories as well as the prayers of her father filled her consciousness. At the age of twelve, Tsering found the answer to her questions about the pain and the injustice: it is present in a centuries old poem. Forty years later, in March 2008, her people unexpectedly rebel. During a demonstration at the Chinese embassy in The Hague she was able, in a magical way, to keep the frustrations of her young compatriots in check.

Director: Clémentine Ederveen

Clémentine Ederveen mixes dramatic black-and-white scenes from Jampa’s childhood with the current political reality in which Tibet finds itself. The way in which Tsering Jampa organizes her activities is inextricably linked to the centuries old culture of hospitality and friendliness she was raised with.

The film will be screened by the Buddhist broadcasting agency (BOS) on Sunday 2 May 2010 (12.00-13.00) (Nederland 2) and the rerun will be on Saturday 8 May 2010 (Nederland 2)
