UNPO-Sindh Resolution On The Destruction Of The Indus Valley Civilization

In connection with the International Day of Action for Rivers, March 14, the UNPO Presidency together with the UNPO Sindh Member has issued a resolution on the distuction of the Indus Valley Civilization.

Resolution:

In light of the fact that the Indus Valley civilization is one of the three oldest of the world and has flourished on the banks of and been nourished by the waters of the Sindhu (River Indus) for millenia;

Fearing that its very survival and the survival of the Sindhi people is threatened by the construction of dams and canals by the Punjab government,  supported by the central government of Pakistan;

We, the Sindhi nation in collaboration with UNPO, demand that:

No further dams and/or canals be constructed on the Indus;

That waters be distributed between Sindh and Punjab as per the 1945 accord reached by the historical Rao commission appointed by the British India Government of the time, as perceived to be the fairest and most acceptable to all;

The Thal Canal should be immediately decomissioned  and studies be initiated by the central government to sess the benefits that may be brought about to the environment and ecosystem of the Sindh delta and the lives of millions of Sindhis by decommissioning the existing mega dams of Mangla and Tarbela.
