Somaliland: IGAD Delegation Visits Somaliland
The President of Somaliland, Dahir Rayale Kahin met yesterday with a delegation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in East Africa. The IGAD delegation are on a short visit to Somaliland led by Mr. Kipsuto Arap Kirwa. Mr. Arap Kirwa is the head of the Somaliland/ and Somalia office for IGAD.

President Rayale and the IGAD delegation discussed areas of mutual interest pertaining to the security, stability and development in East Africa.
President Rayale spoke to the IGAD delegation about Somaliland's progress since reclaiming its sovereignty in 1991. The President placed a strong emphasis on the development of grass roots democracy in Somaliland based on dialogue, discussion and consensus.
President Rayale reminded the IGAD delegation the need to support Somaliland's prevailing stability and development, whilst at the same time continuing to engage Somaliland as an integral part of the overall security and development in the Horn of Africa.
Mr. Arap Kirwa, head of the IGAD delegation in his brief statement thanked the government and the people of Somaliland for their warm welcome. Mr. Arap Kirwa stated that the primary reason for the delegation's visit to Somaliland is to get first hand experience of Somaliland's security, stability and development.
Mr. Arap Kirwa, head of the IGAD office for Somaliland and Somalia, praised Somaliland's efforts to combat terrorism and piracy in the region. The IGAD delegation are expected to hold talks with senior government official, members of the Somaliland House of Elders and Parliament, as well as, opposition party officials and members of the Somaliland business community during their visit.
Attending the meeting from the Somaliland side were the minister of Finance, Mr. Hussien Ali Duale, minister of Planning, Mr. Ali Abdi Ibrahim, minister of Information, Mr. Ahmed Haji Dahir, deputy Planning minister, Mr.Ahmed Hashi Abdi, deputy Foreign minister, Mr. Ahmed Aden Ismail, Somaliland's Ambassador at Large, Dr. Mohamed Aar and members of the protocol office.
